A Rendezvous With Art
Western artists showcase their work at the Gilcrease Museum

TULSA • Rendezvous 2008 kicks off on Friday, April 18, with an evening with the artists, an art sale, and a gala dinner. This year’s featured artists are Tim Shinabarger and Hollis Williford [1940-2007], who was also a featured artist at the show in 1988. The event features works by 32 artists including Tim Cherry, Sandy Scott, Jim Wilcox, T.D. Kelsey, and Cyrus Afsary. “Rendezvous is one of the Gilcrease Museum’s premier events and a major source of funding to support our nationally-recognized public and educational programs, exhibitions, and services,” says Gary Moore, the museum’s interim director. Rendezvous 2008 opens to the public on Saturday, April 19. Additional events held on Saturday include a talk with artist Joseph Bohler at 10 a.m., a members’ and artists’ brunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a gallery talk by sculptor Tim Shinabarger at 1:30 p.m. Rendezvous 2008 is on display at the Gilcrease Museum from April 19 through July 13. En Plein Air
EASTON • Learn about the history and practice of plein-air painting in European Tradition, American Vision: New Works from the Plein-Air Painters of America, which opens April 11 at the Academy Art Museum. The exhibition features more than 40 works depicting scenes in Europe and North America by PAPA signature members, including Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, Scott Burdick, Gil Dellinger, and Joe Paquet. “Today, plein-air painting has changed and is uniquely American. However, no matter the changes, advancements, etc., it traces back to Europe, followed by early 20th-century painters who explored the philosophy and techniques in the States,” said Christopher J. Wild About Art
ST. PETERSBURG • Join art collectors from across the country as they head south to attend the ninth annual Wildlife & Western Visions Art Show presented by Plainsmen Gallery and Raymond James Financial. The show features original paintings, bronze sculptures, and Native American jewelry by 18 artists including Grant Hacking, David Yorke, John Coleman, Julia Rogers, and Vic Payne. The show takes place at the Raymond James Financial Center and opens on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking and admission are free.
