This year about 200 museums and galleries are part of the annual event, including the Autry National Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Santa Monica Museum of Art, to name a few. Among the participating galleries are LewAllen Contemporary, Santa Fe, NM; Spencer Jon Helfen Fine Arts, Los Angeles, CA; Michele Mosko Fine Art, Denver, CO; and Redfern Gallery, Laguna Beach, CA. The impressive show is a collector’s treasure trove, featuring an extensive array of paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and installations. Viewers can expect to see historical works as well as contemporary pieces. Meanwhile, the city of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs has passed a resolution declaring January to be Los Angeles Arts Month—an extended celebration of art with related films, lectures, and musical presentations held in conjunction with the art show. Polomis paints highly realistic still lifes, particularly of antique toys from the 1920s and '30s-works he calls "reactions to the present world of plastic and cellophane." The show goes up January 22 and remains on view through February 10. |
